Iru Agent for Mac Release 5.1.16 (5386): Now with smarter app downloads on limited networks

We’ve released Iru Agent for Mac 5.1.16 (5386), which now makes smarter decisions about when to download managed software if the current connection is believed to be constrained (like on Low Data Mode), expensive (like a mobile hotspot), or both.

Key improvements

  • Background Auto App update downloads are deferred on limited networks unless the install is due within 8hrs.
  • Custom printers with downloadable files follow the same defer-or-proceed logic in background processing.
  • Self Service and the Iru Menu Bar app now warn users before starting an install, update, or reinstall on a limited connection, and the warning message changes based on the kind of network detected.
  • Robust auditability in logs ensures there’s never a question about why the Iru agent did or did not perform an action.

What’s intentionally not restricted

  • First-time installs, including those specified when customizing which Library Items should be installed during ADE. New enrollments on hotspots do happen sometimes!
  • Forced installs via Iru Vulnerability Response.

Additionally, this release ensures the prompt to register with MSDC via Iru's integration is delayed until the user reaches the desktop. It also improves performance of some Parameters.
